It represented the kind of one-sided, non-contextual and questionable presentation of ‘Alarm' that has the tendency to undermine the clarity of thought and open examination of fact and makes it easier for radical ‘Right-Thinkers’ (like Bin Laden, Hussein, Hitler and many in our current administration) take power over a panicked nation. It's always good to get the best, clearest information and I appreciate being informed. But anytime someone insists that they have the "CHECKED-OUT TRUTH," I get suspicious. We usually find that such people have 'a part of the
truth', often either in or out of context.
We always find that claims of the "TRUTH" are from people, organizations or groups who have their own agenda. That agenda often includes spreading their 'Truth' to prove to everyone just how RIGHT they are.
Me? I'm open to Obama (or anyone else) being an absolute A..Hole. But I'm also open to listening to more than one person's opinion... and then checking it out - for REAL.
Still, a large number of people will simply believe what they're told if it's convenient or if it supports their existing opinions (makes them 'RIGHT.')
So the following comes from an Associated Press story

"I've been to the same church — the same Christian church — for almost 20 years," Obama said at a South Carolina rally. "I was sworn in with my hand on the family Bible. Whenever I'm in the United States Senate, I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America."
An e-mail chain has suggested he is hiding his Islamic roots. It says he was sworn into the Senate on the Quran and turns his back on the flag during the pledge.

First - You make great points and I agree with you there.
The item I sent was a report by Associated Press. No claims other than Obama's. But it does call into question the first email item - just as you say. The point is that someone might make a VOTING decision based on that first item (an Email chain with no substantiation) and not investigate further.
But what scares me more is that another George W. could be out there.
Documented stuff: George Bush did fair at Yale. He got in on his family's money. After he got out, he tried several business ventures, all of which he 'managed into the ground' - and his family's friends kept bailing him out. Finally his family got some friends to back him on buying the Houston Astros.
They got the Astrodome built. The OWNERS of the Astros got a ton of money in Federal subsidies for building the Dome.
Lots of free Government (our) money for knowing how to take advantage of laws written to give free lunches to big money.
A proven failure at management and he got elected to run the US?
In the meantime, Cheney's company (Haliburton) got billions to do 'stuff' in Afghanistan. most of that money is unaccounted for... and we already know they got caught over-billing the government for work barely done or not done at all. No one knows for sure and no one has any record of real costs. Billions are also just plain 'lost' somewhere in Iraq. No one knows where they went.
1)The administration has been documented making extreme changes to global warming reports to keep US Citizens from knowing what is actually happening (Look up "Clooney" - he backed out of his job as an Administration attorney and now works for Exon-Mobil),
2)The Social Security fund is in deep sh..,
3)Rumsfeld pushed like hell for a war that no one could actually justify and then took control away from the Generals responsible for conducting it (then, when he saw he was going to get noticed, snuck off to get a quiet, big money consulting job!) Kinda like Carl Rove!
4)the economy and tax codes have been manipulated to cover big money asses,
5)George W. is desperate to try and make himself look good before leaving office, and no one believes him anymore.
6)Businesses (even big ones) are backing away from providing basic medical/dental/vision insurance benefits, and the economy is another fine mess G.W. has gotten us into.
7) Jobs are disappearing (verifiable example --- TaTa Consulting Services of India has for the past 3 years made up over 75% of the contract staff at Target Corporation of Minneapolis.(Tata enterprises has been in the news alot lately buying up US assets, just like the Arabs in the 70's... and China today as well.) Let's not even start about South and Central America!
8)Foreign governments are waiting for the Bush Administration to disappear so they can consider re-building some kind of relationship with the US ...
9) We can no longer afford to adequately educate our children.
10) We can no longer afford to feed and house our own citizens - while we do it for other countries.
Ok - just part of the list. I don't want another batch of liars, thieves, self-serving hypocrites and manipulative power-hungry maniacs running this country. It is as bad as what we saw Sadam doing in Iraq for his own enrichment - and we nailed his sorry a.. for being such a dictator.
Much of what has been done here amounts to both illegal and impeachable offenses. What was the oath of office these American "Leaders" took? What was the Pledge they made?
Obama? a nice, likeable, easy-going guy. That has nothing to do with being a President. Can I trust him? I haven't seen anything to convince me one way or the other... and that's not a good thing this late in the game.
If any politicians who we elect as leaders lie to us as a matter of common practice, it is time that we took our responsibility as self-governing citizens seriously and demanded accountability. Otherwise we deserve all the shit that drops on us. Freedom is not free.
If, as you say, all politicians lie, maybe it's time to elect someone who is not a politician.
Citizens can make, and have made, a difference in the past.
